Why?

I’ve had a growing concern for the way churches and other helping organisations have to deal with Information Technology. Many of us have a significant amount of our organisation’s data locked inside computers. We need corporate level software and support to maintain these systems, and to relate on a level playing field with the organisations around us. However, for a variety of reasons, we are often only able to afford consumer level support, or have great difficulty in justifying appropriate expenditure.

I’ve spent too much time in recent years trying to repair the damage caused when clients decided to “save money” by going to the local computer shop… or where purchasing decisions were made based on the immediate bottom line, or the limited horizons of some retail salespeople. Projects can fail because of incorrect purchasing. This applies not only to the church office, but to ‘home based’ professionals like clergy, and other small businesses. Lack of adequate security and backup is a constant, and frightening, problem. Often people are unaware they could make significant improvements in their computer use for  little or no extra cost.

My dream is to improve the IT support options available to congregations and other helping institutions. I intend to spend some time trying to develop this area. For the past six years I have worked as a Consultant Technician to businesses, and I am currently available to offer similar services to congregations, businesses, and individuals.
